Before You Leave

Before leaving for the USA, it is important to ensure that you have completed the following tasks:

• Gather all important documents, with original copies in your carry-on luggage and photocopies in your check-in luggage.
• Ensure that your passport is valid and that you have the relevant visa.
• Bring necessary documents such as your letter of offer from the American institution, Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), and accommodation details, as well as receipts of any related payments including tuition fees and health cover.
• Bring all mark sheets, certificates, and work experience letters.
• Bring your birth certificate, credit card, ten passport size photographs, and an international driver’s license.
• Have important telephone numbers and addresses in India and the USA.
• Bring prescriptions for any required medications.
• Ensure that you have health insurance and medical cover.
• Calculate the exchange rate and bring enough cash for the first few days.
• Comply with the airline’s baggage restrictions and label your luggage with your name, contact address, and the address of your institution.
• Research the area and familiarize yourself with any religious or cultural differences you may encounter.
• Be prepared for a different climate from your home country and pack accordingly.
