Before You Leave
To ensure a smooth departure for your studies in Singapore, it is important to have a pre-departure checklist.
- Obtain the IPA (Student’s Pass in-principal approval) letter before leaving for Singapore.
- Undergo a medical examination in your home country as specified by the visa authorities and submit your medical report at the authorized hospital in Singapore.
- Ensure that you have a valid passport for international travel with a validity of at least six months.
- Have all original copies and complete sets of Xerox of your academic results and work experience (if applicable) for verification in Singapore.
- Have all important documents such as birth certificate, photographs, and credit card.
- Get official translations done in English for any documents that are not in English.
- Have a confirmation email or letter stating that you have a place to stay in Singapore, which may be needed when applying for a study visa.
- Carry at least $1000.00 for your first week of stay and maintain a Singapore bank account for hassle-free transactions.
- Bring prescriptions to support the use of any required medications.
- Check baggage allowance with your airline and label your luggage with your name, contact address, and the address of your institution.
- After arriving in Singapore, complete your Student’s Pass formalities at the Immigration Checkpoints Authority (ICA).
- Seek help from the specialized services department for international students at your institution if needed.
- If you do not have Singapore currency, there are currency exchange counters at the airport in Singapore.
